Created by Keith Johnstone
Directed by Veena Sood and Frank Totino, featuring the LifeGame® Ensemble
LifeGame, as developed by Keith Johnstone, is an improvised staged biography of a guest’s life. The guest is interviewed about their life, and a team of improvisers and a director bring the stories to life. We begin with childhood, formative experiences, successes and failures, triumphs and heartbreaks, all the way to “how would you like to die?” It’s a journey of trivial things, to things that matter to the guest, to things that matter to all of us very much. At times hilarious, at times deeply moving, LifeGame® is a show that reminds us that everyone, however ordinary, has an extraordinary life story to tell.
“Good impro can make you laugh, we love it, but soon the content is forgotten. Good scenes from the LifeGame® stay with you always. They haunt you.”

This show is an International TheatreSports Festival performance:
The Improv World is coming to VTS from October 14 – 20 when we will be playing host to the International TheatreSports Institute (iTi) Conference and Festival. The iTi is the largest improv network in the world. Every two years they convene a conference and improv festival that brings together improvisers from around the globe. The theme of this year’s festival is ImproV Ecology in recognition of how the improv art form has evolved around the world to reflect the influences it receives from different cultural terroirs. The Festival showcases improv formats created by iTi founder Keith Johnstone (e.g. Theatresports™, Gorilla Theatre™, Maestro Impro™ and The Life Game™), along with signature performances by some of the visiting international delegates and companies. All shows will take place on Granville Island. In addition to our own theatre, The Improv Centre, we will also be performing at the Waterfront Theatre and at the Nest Studio Theatre – all three venues are only a short walk apart from each other.
