Our Venue and How To Get Here

The Improv Centre

Vancouver TheatreSports produces 11 different shows per week, 52 weeks of the year at its own theatre, The Improv Centre, located on beautiful Granville Island. Nestled under the south end of the Granville Street Bridge, Granville Island is home to a vibrant community including the world-renowned Public Market, restaurants, theatres, artists’ studios, the Granville Island Hotel, a float-home community and a marina.

The Improv Centre is a unique facility – it is the only purposely built-for-improv theatre in western Canada.  It is an intimate space, seating only 186 patrons in three types of seats – cabaret-style tables and chairs up front close to the stage, a banquette bench with bar rail and traditional theatre seats with cup holders.

Tucked at the back of The Improv Centre you will find the Neil Macrae Bar & Lounge, our own licensed facility, which boasts a Boardwalk Patio overlooking the picturesque Granville Island Marina and False Creek.

The Box Office at The Improv Centre opens at 6 p.m. Mondays through Sundays, the first show starts promptly at 7:30 p.m.  The Neil Macrae Bar & Lounge opens at 6:30 p.m. for theatre patrons. See map and parking below the photo gallery

The Improv Centre is available for rentals.

Parking on Granville Island

Keeping with Granville Island’s unique feel, the parking system is significantly different from any other neighbourhood in Vancouver. Some of the most notable differences are the parking stall indicators, a mix of traditional yellow lines and non-traditional yellow dots. Please keep in mind that all regulations are strictly enforced.

We pride ourselves on having a completely accessible venue. The majority of the theatre is raked seats with stairs, but there are also plenty of floor seats that can be moved to accommodate a patron in a wheelchair. Our accessible washroom is located just off the lobby.

Please advise us of your needs when you book your tickets.

There is a separate entrance to our administration office at 1515 Anderson Street (two doors down from the theatre) that is wheelchair accessible. For assistance please call 604.738.7013 with as much advanced notice as possible.

Vancouver TheatreSports is proud to be a participating venue of the Access 2 Card program.

Going to an improv show here is worth it exactly 100% of the time. Venue is great and has a very nice layout. Not too big, it retains a cozy atmosphere while having high ceilings, great views from any seat, a big stage and decent acoustics. It's a good night out for a date or a group of friends. Pretty limited bar, but enough to drink. My suggestion is (this was on very good advice from a friend) go early.
