We look forward to re-opening The Improv Centre and laughing with you all again soon. Stay safe and healthy!
Vancouver TheatreSports is a unique professional theatre organization dedicated to the growth and exploration of exceptional improv-based work for the purpose of challenging and inspiring the community. Vancouver TheatreSports (VTS) began in 1980 and is now an award-winning theatre company, and a pillar of the Vancouver comedy scene. VTS produces some of the most daring and innovative improv anywhere with a style that is a highly theatrical fusion of the dramatic elements of comedy and tragedy coupled with the enthusiasm and edge-of-your-seat excitement of professional sport.
I adore everything about this place but the comedy you get here is truly second to none. I recommend going here and get some guaranteed laughs!
This was one of my best impromptu decisions ever in Vancouver! I was at Granville island for dinner and a drink, and it was 7pm when I was done. Walking past, I saw that there was a show at 7.30pm, and I thought, why not? Walked in to buy a ticket on the spot... The crew was extremely talented, and had us rolling in the aisles. Tickets were very reasonably priced for 1.5h of showtime. Great first comedy improv experience, will strongly recommend!
So I went here for an improv show with my mom and sister while visiting Vancouver and it was one of the highlights of our trip! The cast had us laughing in tears and were super entertaining. I like that the space is fairly small so you feel like you're a part of the action even from the back. For those people scared of being pulled on stage, they will only take you if you volunteer yourself, so your friends cannot volunteer your name. Good drinks, great time. So glad we stopped by!
I always have so much fun at Vancouver TheatreSports! The improv there is always spot on and absolutely HILARIOUS! You choose a show you’d like to go to ... pick your seats (theres an option between sitting at a table or in normal theatre seats) and once you get there you have access to a bar ... Every seat in the house is good no matter what so don’t worry about being in the back of the house if its a popular showing. Beyond that, prepare for a great laugh and audience participation!
Never had so much fun in Vancouver. There's times that you'll laugh in Vancouver and there's times that you'll REALLY laugh in Vancouver. It's all in the creative performance. This place is alive, creative, super intelligent, talented. Never fails to entertain, I've been coming here for really good laughs since 1997. The talent of the performers is simply unequalled anywhere in the city.
Girlfriend & I had a date night with dinner on Granville Island and thought let's give TheaterSports a try ... was very nervous going in as I thought I'd be put on the spot or dragged up on stage ... I was nervous for nothing! The host and cast were great (and HILARIOUS), crowd participation was encouraged but totally voluntarily, and we ended up laughing for 2 hours straight! ... Highly, highly recommend taking an evening out to enjoy the wonderful artists.
Going to an improv show here is worth it exactly 100% of the time. Venue is great and has a very nice layout. Not too big, it retains a cozy atmosphere while having high ceilings, great views from any seat, a big stage and decent acoustics. It's a good night out for a date or a group of friends. Pretty limited bar, but enough to drink. My suggestion is (this was on very good advice from a friend) go early.
My favourite date night activity! Always a new and exciting show and you might even recognize some of the improvisers on a few tv projects. They also have a great discount ticket deal if you want to stay for another showing the night you go.
The Vancouver TheatreSports League puts on shows that are both entertaining and so good that you don't realize how technically impressive they are until you really, really start thinking about it ... The venue is stylish and very well done. From the bar with it's waterside patio to the big stage with it's iconic table seats, everything is very well taken care of and the staff is incredibly friendly.
Most fun for the money! Most laughs I've had in years! Players were funny and enthusiastic and audience participation was encouraged. Not for young children or prudes but not vulgar either. Just real adult/teen humor. The admission price was very reasonable. Get tickets early because it sold out on a Tuesday night! Theater is located on Granville Is. so parking is at a premium (use the nearby underground lot).
