In this winner-takes-all contest you won’t see a ‘Peruvian necktie’ or a ‘Rubber guard’ but you will see opponents face off in a fierce competition of wits for who can win the most laughs. In Mixed Improv Arts (MIA), two Improv Directors go head-to-head as they put a team of improvisers through a set of grueling and hilarious improv formats.
The first half of the show features the first Director working with a team of four players. They perform a 25 minute improv set within a framework created by that Director. Three judges then score the set. The second half of the show features the second Director putting the same team of players through a different scenario format which is also rated by the judges. Scores are totalled and the winner is announced.
Throughout, as in all VTS improv, the audience is called upon to assist the action with their suggestions and shouted encouragement. No one knows what will happen next in these edge-of-your-seat matches. As in MMA matches, Mixed Improv Arts promises a no-holds-barred battle to the finish. Will there be blood? Maybe not, but there may be some badly bruised egos.
MIA plays every Thursday evening at 9:15 p.m.

We had purchased tickets to the 9:15 show and it was even funnier than the 7:30 one. We will be back."
It's always such a pleasure - always involving hysterical laughter, staff is super friendly. You will NEVER leave disappointed. ☺️"
I’ve been to over 30 shows over the past 7 years I can’t recall a single time I didn’t almost tinkle in my pants from laughing so hard. This place is beyond amazing."
This was a great late-night outing in Vancouver. We attended one of their improv comedy shows, and couldn't stop laughing. Talented group of comedians! Plus it's in Granville Public Market, so lots of good food around as well before the show. They have drinks for sale at the venue as well."
