In September 1980, Vancouver TheatreSports League® (VTSL) first came to be. At that time, the players were experimenting with a brand new format for improvisation and were literally standing on the corner of Thurlow and Robson begging for audience members. The past twenty years have seen VTSL grow to become one of the largest not-for-profit improv-based theatre companies in the world. VTSL presents shows fifty-two weeks per year and employs over fifty performers, technicians and support staff year-round.
The 2012/2013 season will see VTSL continue to produce exceptional improvisation
at our new venue THE IMPROV CENTREon Granville Island, while also reaching out to different audiences through our VTS Events,
VTS Training and school tour activities.
Driving all of these activities is our mission to foster exceptional work and to promote improvisation as an art form - to stimulate, to transform, and to challenge our audience. And, of course, to keep them laughing.
While you visit this website to familiarize yourself with VTSL's programs, activities and players, remember that this virtual presence cannot compare to the vital, spontaneous atmosphere of our performances. If you want to get to know us better, come down to the
THE IMPROV CENTREon
Granville Island and catch a show. I look forward to seeing you there.
Sincerely,
Jay Ono
